RE: Burchfield Branch COE

Stayed there 4 years ago when we had our PUP. It was late Sept and it was practically deserted. Had a very enjoyable 4 days. Got a larger rig now and can't make that steep grade out but I'd go again if and when we get a larger tow truck.
Hope y'all have a great time. Let us know how it did.

RE: College football - week 6

A win by 3 is better than a loss by 1. Roll Tide
You're so right - that is a big change fron this time last year - ROLL TIDE ROLL...6 and 0 not 4 and 2...Just # 2 and the Tide will keep rising. Look out Baton Rouge, you're gonna see more High Tide at Tiger Stqdium than you got from Trina & Gustav.

RE: Jayco G2

We traded a 2006 Jayco Flight 20BH for a 2008 29RLS in June.
We really like it and are enjoying the spacious living/dining/kitchen area. We've had no problems with it so far and we camp in it quite often. We're in it tonight enjoying the cool fall evening.

RE: Opinions on Birchfield Branch near Birmingham, AL

Camped at both and both are very wooded. Burchfield is at the bottom of the hills and it would probably be difficult to get a connection. Also, it is a long way down to get to the campsite so you'll need plenty of power to get you rig back up that hill. We really liked it but we had a PUP then and don't have a tow truck that can handle that now.
I've seen various dishes out at Deer Lick and Direct seemed to do the best. The sites along the main road seemed to get the best reception because it is pretty open along there.

RE: Michigan loses college football week 1 VOLS-UCLA UPDATE

I can only say - ROLL TIDE ROLL. This is a great start and obviously a lot of the new guys have bought into the program. I hope they remember that there are more games ahead and tougher teams or as Gene Stallings used to say, "We ain't won nothing yet!".

RE: New Jayco 31RKS

This June we traded in a 2006 Jay Flight 20BH for a Jay Flight G2 29RLS and we are amazed at all the room we have. DW and I looked at a 25RKS and she liked it a lot. We were very interested in getting one UNTIL we walked into this one.
DW loved the large rear window and the spacious area in the kitchen with lots of counter space plus 2 electrical outlets at the kitchen counter. The other plus was we also had 2 rocker/swivel chairs and a sofa with a hide-a-bed and a dining table with 4 chairs. It is sssssoooo much room.
I'm sure you'll really enjoy camping in your new unit. We do very much...probably the best RV'ing we've ever experienced!

RE: Toilet Paper

We changed from expensive RV paper to the Scott's One-Ply after we got a free sample roll at an RV show 2 years ago. It does just as good and it's cheaper.

RE: Well DH bought our new TT.

We started tent camping in mid-1980's with 3 kids and quickly went to a Coleman Williamsburg PUP...the largest size they had then. We have many great memories camping in it - GSMNP, Ft Wilderness, Gulf Shores, AL. In 1989 we traded it for a 26ft Playmor to do a month long trip up BRP to DC area, then Maryland, Shenandoah NP, then back down BRP to GSMNP. We were sold on TT for that trip.
Sold it and no family camping for a few years but DS and I were tent camping with BSA. DW and I got started tent camping again in mid 1990's and bought a used Coleman Taos PUP in 2003. We (I) quickly found out cranking PUP up & down, and packing all extra stuff to camp out was not as easy at 57 as it was at 45. Traded it for a Jayco 20BH and we were back in TT again and loving every trip we took in it. So did the 2 pups. We traded it for a Jayco 29RLS this June and WOW RVing is so much fun now.
I think you'll grown to like it too and as noted before you can always go sit out under the awning or around a campfire until you're ready to go back in AC and crawl into that nice large bed.

RE: Natchez Trace - Starting in Nashville

I20 west at Jackson, MS is your best bet off. You'll always go past Vicksburg that way on your way into LA on your way into Texas.

RE: CG/Sights recommendation between Natchez, MS & Townsend, TN

Actually Tannehill will be packed in October. They do Halloween all month long and families come and park for the whole time. There are so many campers that they overflow into the primitive sites. Plus, as mentioned above, the third weekend is Trade Days and they are usually covered up with day visitors coming to shop.

RE: Campgrounds near DC?

Stayed at Fredericksburg KOA in 1989 for a week. Drove into DC on Fri & Sat, parked at Jefferson Memorial (was free parking all day back then) and caught the Gray Line to move around the area with all-day passes for DW and 2 DD.
It was a nice spot and a good hour (maybe a tad more). We always got up and out early and were there in plenty of time to do a full day of sightseeing.
Also toured Civil War Battlefields, Fredericksburg and drove to Williamsburg one day for a quick drive down and back.
We were very pleased with the CG then and have seen some other recent posts about it. Do a search for recent ratings & comments.

RE: Gulfstream or Jayco

Can't comment on the Jayco model but I go with Jayco as a very satisfied Jayco customer. We've had two and have been pleased with the workmanship and the service plus the 2 yr warranty on the basic trailer.
Previously we had a Jay Flight 20BH. We just traded it in for our present Jay Flight G2 29RLS which we are so happy with...size, layout and equipment.
I have a friend that went with the Gulfstream and he seems to be satisfied but we still like Jayco.

RE: What to do at night Camping??

Whatever I want to do, If I feel like surfin the net, I do. If I feel like sitting by the the campfire, I do. If I want to watch TV, I do. I never care how you like to camp, do what you like, if its not my thing I will certainly not try to tell you your way is wrong. Rule #1...have fun. Rule #2, quit worrying what other people do.
We're with you, whatever we want and like to do.
We walk the pups, we drive around in our golf cart to sww what people are doing and to visit with prople as we go around the CG, sit out and read, walk the dogs and talk, watch TV or dvd's, sit inside and read, play games on the computer, check emails our look up info we are curious about (Like: What is the floorplan of that new Cherokee that came in? What was that flower or was it a weed? What kind of bird was that?), go sightsee in the area or go out to eat at different eateries, go walk the pups again...basically just whatever scratches our itch. Today it was visiting 2 museums in Anniston, AL and walking our butts off then eating in a restaurant we had driven by dozens of times...the meal was super!
Nothing and everything is jusr right for us.

RE: Camping lights/Decor!!!!!!

DW & I like looking at other folk's decorations. We also have decorations and have decorated before.
Right now we have a new TT with an electric awning so I am not putting out our Globe Lights, twirly-gigs and wind sock on it like we did with the manual one we had before.
We also have an American Flag with lighted red and blue lights that we used in the front window of our old TT that doesn't work with new TT.
We still have our wooden name plaque that we hang from our TT crank handle and rope lights we put on ground around concrete patio and TT steps for low level night light to take dogs out.
We have seen lantern stands made with PVC pipe that have name plaques hanging from them. Some have coachlights mounted in them and/or plastic flowers or ivy twined around the post. I want one of them and hope to make one some day. Also want to get some solar lights for outside. We've seen them around our CG and they are so nice and the light is very soft. Another item is a flag stand we can change flags with season.
We're at Logan Landing on Logan Martin Lake in Ala and the CG has 3 weekends of Halloween plus other theme weekends like "Pirates", "Tropical Tiki", "Patriotic" (Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day), "Christmas in July", "Space Aliens" and more plus parades with decorated golf carts, bicycles and costumed children.
We love to see 'um and do 'um.

RE: "I need to make some money......"

Interviewed a lady many years ago that said, "I really need a job and I'll do anything."
Me - The store is open 6 days a week and we rotate one person off each week.
Lady - "Oh, I can't work on Saturdays, but I really need a job and I'll do anything."
Me - Some evenings we have to work late to get out billings, do inventory, post sales.
Lady - "Oh, I can't work past 4:30 PM, but I really need a job and I'll do anything."
So I could see she was much too qualified to work for me and I recommended she go to our competitor who needed her skills more than I did.
